Rise offers safe spaces for kids to learn
and heal
Over three years ago, Yaroslav and his mother Svitlana were
forced to escape their home in Lysychansk in Eastern Ukraine
due to the full-scale Russian invasion. They have been living in
“temporary” housing ever since.
When we first met him, Yaroslav spent most of his time
hiding under the table—vulnerable, scared, and alone. Now,
Yaroslav gets access to Rise programming at the local public
library three times per week—helping him overcome the
trauma of war and displacement. Thanks to you, he’s having
fun, he’s learning, and he’s finding reasons to smile.
